Bayelsa state Governor,Seriake Dickson Monday commissioned the Bayelsa state Airport, Amassoma.
In his remarks the Governor reiterated his desire to see the Airport improved upon by successsive administrations, harping that with clear intention of continueing the legacies of the former Governor of the state, late chief DSP Alamieyeiseigha he cited the project at his home town, Amassoma.
According to the Governor, the delays to operationalize the Airport by the Nigerian civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria was politically motivated, stating that the Airport is the first in Ijawland.
The Governor commended the contracting firm for the construction of the Airport,Dantata and Sawoe, emphasising that the equipments in the Airport are of global standard.
“This Airport is standard, all the facilities here are of global standards.I’ve visited many Airports in this country,no one has the kind of facilities we have in this Airport.Today I and my team are making history as we ccommission the first Airport in the heart of Ijawland.”He said.
“Is it bad that we’ve built schools, houses and roads that they would’ve built that they didn’t build? Is building an Airport a bad thing?ThankGod the Airforce have started using the Airport,a sign that we’re ready to take Bayelsa to the world and bringing the world to Bayelsa. Bayelsa and the entire Ijaw nation have for so long been cut-off from civilization, but with this commissioning we’ve again proved to our critics that we mean to develop this state.”He added.
Also speaking chairman Bayelsa state council of Traditional Rulers and Amayanabo of Twon-Brass,King Alfred Diete-Spiff described the Airport as a lasting legacy by the Dickson’s administration.
The former Military Governor of the Old Rivers state commended the Governor for the project, stressing that the gains which will come to the state in the nearest future as a result of the Airport can not be overemphasised, calling on Bayelsans to take advantage of the project.
In his remarks, state commissioner for Works, Friday Konyefa described the project as a legacy worth bequeathing to the state, reiterating that there are state of the art facilities in the Airport.
Meanwhile Governor Dickson has name the entrance road leading to the Airport after the late chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, the first Executive Governor of the state and an indigene of Amassomà,host community of the Airport.
