No fewer than four persons were killed on Thursday evening when a gang of deadly armed robbers raided two banks at Ile oluji in ile Oluji Oke Igbo local government of Ondo state.
The robbers were said to have used dynamites to rip off the doors of the two banks identified as First and Polaris banks.
Among those killed were two mobile policemen and two other unidentified civilians.
It was gathered that before gaining entrance into the banks, the criminals had turned the place to a war front scenario as they shot sporadically into every direction.
Spokesperson of the Ondo state police command, Femi Joseph confirmed the attack but added that they the command immediately deployed its men to the scene of the crime.
Banks have been targets of attacks in the hinterland and some towns and villages in the country have not had banking operations for some time.
Residents of the agrarian town which is the headquarters of the Local Government have been in shock since the incident occurred.
The incident is another sad one as Nigeria battles insecurity which recently led to the establishment of the Operation Amotekun, a security outfit organised by the governors of the south western states in Nigeria aimed at protecting lives and properties in the region.
Many have welcomed the idea of the operation and optimistic it would complement the efforts of the Nigerian police which work round the clock to protect Nigerians.
National Wire however commiserates with the government and people of Ondo State especially those who have lost loved ones in the attack.
