Niger State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has announced the arrest of no fewer than 3,000 suspected criminals with 3,066 sundry cases, as the Command lost two gallant Officers while on line of duties in the last one year (2019) in the state.
The State’s Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. George Edem, stated this on Thursday during an interactive session with the newsmen briefing in Minna, the state capital on the Command’s achievements in the past one year, adding that it has maintained 24 hours surveillance on critical infrastructure across the state.
Edem explained further that those arrests were made in the areas of artisaner miners, pipeline vandals, Abbuja Electricity Distribution Company’s installations vandals, suspected kidnappers and armed robbers among others, who were said to have been handed over to the appropriate agencies for prosecution and counseling.
Commandant Edem, disclosed further that the Command has received no fewer than 2,753 complaints across the state which includes, bothers on theft, assault, trespass, burglary, Debts, culpable homicide, impersonation, character deformation and sundry other complaints in the year under review.
He noted that in 2019, the command through its Intelligence and Investigation Department as well as Peace and Conflicts Management Unit, recovered a sum of N38, 789, 570.00 and other valuable items such as 3 stolen vehicles, 8 motorcycles, 3 tricycles, 1 AK 47 riffle with 26 rounds of live ammunitions and 1 pump Action Riffle with 3 live cartridges.
He stated further that the Niger State Command of the NSCDC, participated in all the Joint Security Taskforce Operations, especially in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger states respectively, including FCT, so as to enhance lasting peace in the state and the country at large as part of of the inter- agencies synergy among the security agencies..
Edem however expressed appreciation for the assistance, cooperation and support from the NSCDC’s Headquarters, in Abuja and assured the personnel of more capacity training in the new year, for effective and efficient performance.
He also commended the Niger state government for always showing their adequate support to the Command in times of needs most especially by issuing certificate of occupancy for land to build its barracks.
Edem described as one of the challenges bedeviling the state’s Command of the NSCDC, the issue of inadequate funding to enable it purchase more Operational Vehicles so as to respond faster to distressed calls in the 25 local government areas of the state.
The NSCDC’s Boss, noted that few operatiinal vehicles that were made available to Command were being judiciously utilized to the benefit of the Command and the state.
