Bayelsa state Governor-elect,Chief David Lyon Wednesday swore-in a 59 member transition committee towards his official swearing-in as Governor February 14th next year.
Swearing-in the committee, members Chief Lyon charged them to live above boards,saying the transition committee became necessary following the issues of maladministration left by the outgoing Government of Governor Seriake Dickson for the incoming APC administration.
The Governor-elect, instructed the committee to workout the modalities for having a hitch-free transition alongside the transition committee already setup by the outgoing Government.
“Everybody know that the Dickson’s Government has failed Bayelsans.This committee is to work to see that our incoming Government is able to deliver on its campaign promises.” He said.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after inauguration, committee chairman and former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state,Chief Werenipre Seibarugu said the committee would work to deliver within the time slated as handover date from the outgoing Government to the incoming one,stressing that all the 59 members of the committee have the requisite expertise of the terms of reference giving them by the Governor-elect.
The committee was given 12 points terms of reference,Chief amongst them are, to review preliminary assessment of the balance sheet of government with particular emphasis on the status and liabilities of government,cash flow position of the government including specific x-raying on relationship with all banks and financial institutions.
Other terms of reference according to the incoming Governor are,that the committee work on the quantum of both domestic and external debts of government and their deployment as well as government’s outstanding contractual obligations and its ability to meet such obligations.
Yet other terms of reference include,that the committee identify possible crises generating and controversial issues including government policies,programmes and administrative actions that may cause distraction in the first 100 days in office of the incoming government.
Former Bayelsa state head of service,Mr Obioha Oworibor serves as the committee’s Secretary just as other 57 members handle other key positions.
