Bayelsa technology incubation hub says it is set to lead the technological breakthrough of the state for development to thrive.
Director of the Bank of Industry and Bayelsa state Government funded public-private sector driven technology hub, Mr Harry Porbene stated this Monday in the opening ceremony of a 5-day programme organized by the hub in conjunction with the bank of industries and the Bayelsa state Microfinance agency.
Speaking on the theme of the programme,”the benefits of driving growth of SMEs with tech,” special guest of honour and former commissioner of Science and Technology, River state, Dr Emmanuel Denenu noted that the present and the world in the future is technology driven.
Denenu, who was also technical assistant to erstwhile Minister for Science and Technology,Professor Turner Isoun harped that Nigeria and Nigerians are so endowed that if Science and tech are properly handled the state and the Nations would be better for it.
The former commissioner charged participants to take the advantages afforded by the under used various technological institutes in the nation seriously,saying that technology has since overtaken the wealth generated through the petroleum industries.
Also speaking, Director-General,Bayelsa state Microfinance agency, Dr Ebikure Eradiri said the success of the 21st century businesses depend on technological innovation. He stressed that the State Microfinance bank has in the past provided loans for Bayelsans and non-Bayelsans resident in the state to grow their enterprises, assuring that his agency is still willing to do same for Bayelsans who are ready to set up technological enterprises.
According to Eradiri the bane of Africa’s development is the absence of technology advancement, noting that as as the Director-General of the state Microfinance agency he has been privileged to adverse the African Union on the importance of using technology as tool to empower the younger generations of the continent.
“I was privileged to have been among African Economic team assembled by the AU to discuss the Economic future of the continent. So when the talk about development without the SMEs which propel development my advice has been that we must take technology for growth of the SMEs seriously.” He said.
