Bayelsa 2019: Ogbia LG APC Chair Breaks Silence Over Lyon’s Victory

By: Ariwera Ibibo – Howells, Yenagoa.

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Honourable Abi Morris Tuesday broke silence on the overwhelming victory of the party’s Governorship candidate in the just concluded Governorship election in the state.

In an interview with journalists in Yenagoa, the Otuasega-born APC Chieftain described Lyon’s victory in Ogbia Kingdom and Bayelsa in general as unprecedented, saying that overwhelming support of the people of Ogbia extraction for David Lyon and the goodwill the Governor-elect enjoys from within Ogbia and the entire state was converted into votes for him by the people in the governorship polls.

Morris harped that even though more Ogbia sons and daughters recently defected to the party, the major reason for Lyon’s landslide victory particularly in Ogbia Local Government and other parts of the statewas partly due to the vigorous campaigns and consultations the party in Ogbia alongside other progressive minded individuals carried out in all the communities of the Local Government to market the APC and its gubernatorial candidate in the election.

The APC stalwart lambasted the Governor Seriake Dickson’s administration, alleging that the governor is anti-Ogbia.

According to the politician, the outgoing PDP government of Dickson during the past seven years, nine months has given the Ogbia Kingdom backseat in his government, alleging that even the 13,763 votes the Ogbia people gave to the Peoples Democratic Party in the just rounded up governorship election came as surprise to him and other stakeholders of the APC in Ogbia and elsewhere.

The Chairman said the PDP candidate and the PDP as a political party following the ill-treatment they meted out to the Ogbia people deserve less than the number of votes given them in the election.

Morris commended the Ogbia people for demonstrating their resolve to be more united for progress and development through their block votes for the Lyon/Degi APC candidacy, emphasising that the duo have the capacity to deliver democratic dividends to Ogbia people and Bayelsa state as a whole.
Morris said, “the Ogbia people have seen the light, I remember telling my people to join the APC boat weeks leading to the governorship election and so the Ogbia people decided to take their destiny into their hands by joining the APC moving boat through voting massively for David Lyon.”

Speaking against the back drop of the massive defections of Ogbia politicians from other parties to the APC before the election, Morris described the move as a welcomed development, restating that with the coming of the likes of Chief Claudius Enegesi and other political stalwarts of Ogbia origin into the APC, the party in Ogbia became stronger, culminating into 100% victory of the party governorship candidate in Ogbia.

You would recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Sunday declared Chief David Lyon, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of the 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa State, polling 58,016 votes in Ogbia Local Government Area, forming part of the cumulative 352,552 votes which made the APC Gubernatorial candidate winner.
