In what appears to be a commando style, trucks load of policemen, one armored carrier and one black maria took over the Idimu council area on Tuesday as shop owners and others run for safety.
According to eye witness account, in the ensuing melee a member of the National Union of Road Transport (NURTW) work, popularly called Iron body was allegedly shot.
“Iron body was killed last night and fear of his group seeking revenge and using his killing to create mayhem made detachment of security men take over the area with armored car patrolling the area.
The eye witness account who said the development which has extended towards Idimu/Iseri and Liasu road in Egbe, noted that trouble started last night when IronBody and his team went to the outlet of a car dealer located close to Council Bus stop.
He was said to have gone there to thank the motor dealer who gave him some protection money few days back.
The eye witness account explained that trouble started when Iron body who felt honoured to have been given the handout at the first time of asking, was last night prevented by the policemen from going to see the car dealer as quickly as he preferred.
The car dealer is said to have quickly emptied his showroom by taking all the car to safety, following the death of iron body for fear of reprisal.
Meanwhile, another eye witness said scores of youths in Idimu, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Tuesday protested the alleged killing of one Ahmed Segun by a riot policeman attached to a company in the area.
It was learnt that police personnel from Idimu and neighbouring areas were mobilised to the scene and were complemented by men of the Rapid Response Squad to quell the riotous gathering.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said preliminary investigation revealed that the youth were reacting to the death of Segun, 32, who was allegedly shot by a riot policeman guarding a company in the area.
Elkana stated that on August 6, around 9pm, the command received a distress call that some youths, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked a car stand at the Council area, Ikotun Road, Idimu, and were about to set the building ablaze.
He said, “Police teams from Idimu and neighbouring police stations were mobilised to the scene. Reinforcements were also sent from the Rapid Response Squad.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the youth were reacting to the death of Ahmed Segun, 32, who was purported to have been shot by a riot policeman protecting the company.”
According to him, eyewitnesses stated that an argument ensued between the riot policeman and the deceased, which resulted in a physical confrontation.
He added that some of the eyewitnesses narrated that the deceased and his friends made an attempt to forcefully gain access into the company, but were resisted by the cop, which resulted in a fight and the eventual shooting of Segun.
“The group of youths is notorious for harassing people in the area. The whereabouts of the said mobile policeman is unknown. It is not certain if he is dead or alive,” Elkana stated.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, had ordered an in-depth investigation into the case.
