The Bayelsa state House of Assembly at Tuesday plenary moved a motion summoning the management of the Port Harcourt electricity distribution company, PHED, the state commissioner for power, Hon. Peter Afagha and the special adviser to the Bayelsa state governor on power, engineer Olice Kenenanabo to appear before the house following the incessant power outages and total black out in the state.
Moving the motion, former deputy leader of the House who also doubles as chairman committee on power and member representing Ogbia constituency 1 Hon. Chief Mitema Obordor described the total shortage and collapse of the power sector in the state as worrisome.
The Ogbia-born legislator questioned why the Port Harcourt electricity distribution company, PHED would charge Bayelsans hiked bills even though electricity consumers in the state live and do their businesses without power from the national grid.
Obordor appealed to the house to invite PHED and the state ministry of power to appear before the committee on power in order to explain their roles as to why the state would be in total black-out, emphasizing that if the gas turbine at the state own Imiringi power plant was functioning the state electricity fortunes would have been better.
Contributing to the motion, Honourable Tari Pori, member representing Ekeremor constituency1 berated PHED and the state ministry of power for neglecting Bayelsans amidst the power crisis in the state, emphasizing that it is another form of economic marginalization.
