The Federal Government has said the 2019 General Elections were not the only things the nation accomplished in the first quarter of 2019, listing the new minimum wage, the Strategic Revenue Growth Initiatives (SRGI) and eight other programs of the government as its achievements for the period.
According to the Presidency Office of Digital Engagement (PODE) in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, Infrastructure, Financing Infrastructure, Consumer Protection, Special Economic Zones and Health Care were also among the landmark achievements of the government.
President Muhammadu Buhari was quoted as saying: “I want to make it clear that there is no question about whether the National Minimum Wage will be reviewed upwards. I am committed to a review of the Minimum Wage.”
It is recalled that the Committee on National Minimum Wage, headed by Mr. Bismarck Rewane, submitted its report on Monday March 25, 2019.
There has been a “sustained accretion to External Reserves from $23.81 billion in September 2016 to $44 billion as of end-March, 2019,” the Presidency also noted.
It added that “Inflation Rate has been trending downwards from 18.55 per cent as at December 2016 to 15.37 per cent in December 2017, 11.44 per cent in December 2018 (below the ERGP target of 12.42 per cent for 2018) and further to 11.31 per cent in February 2019.”
This is as Ease of Doing Business, Micro Pension and Federal Government Construction Project across the country which are “currently proceeding on schedule” also signpost what President Buhari’s government has delivered in Nigeria.
“For the first time in Nigeria’s recent history election season did not halt or negatively affect ongoing Federal Government construction projects across the country,” stated the statement from PODE.
The projects listed by PODE are: Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail Project (160km), Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway (375km), Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Road (220km) and Lagos-Sagamu-Ibadan Expressway (130km).
Others are the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, Second Niger Bridge (11.9km), Afam Fast Power Plant (240MW), Zungeru Power Plant (700MW), Bodo-Bonny Bridges and Road (38km) as well as the Energizing Economies and Energizing Education programmes, taking clean and sustainable electricity to markets and University campuses across the country.
“I call on other local and international investors, as well as the State Governments, to embrace this roads infrastructure development Scheme. I personally invite you to submit viable proposals for more road projects, such that, in time, the scope of this initiative will cover all 36 States of the Federation,” President Buhari also said on infrastructural development.
