The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has lifted ban on political campaigns, allowing parties to tighten “lose ends” ahead of the February 13 Presidential election.
Disclosing this in a statement on Monday night in Abuja, the National Commissioner with the INEC and Chairman, Committee on Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye, said that the commission has lifted the ban till the midnight of Thursday February 21, 2019.
The extension followed the eleventh hour postponement of the elections that were initially scheduled to hold on February 16.
It is recalled that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier said on Monday that their respective parties would go ahead with campaigns till the eve of the elections.
The electoral Act stipulates that all political campaigns should halt 24 hours before the commencement of voting.
