Presenter of Proudly Naija Show on Eko 89.7 FM, Udeme Udom, has advised the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, diversify the economy from oil and drum up support for locally made products.
Udom made this call during an Independence Day Road Show staged to celebrate Nigeria’s 58th anniversary and to drum support for made in Nigeria products on Monday.
The rally which began at the LTV8 premises, Ikeja went through Obafemi Awolowo way to the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat and back to the start venue.
Several brands however identified with the road show had their jingles were played and fliers were distributed along the train.
Speaking at the event, Udom said the reason for the rally on Nigeria’s Independence Day was to identify with locally made products and give them the much needed boost.
“Ever since the discovery of oil in commercial quantity, Nigeria veered away from locally made products including agricultural products which had given the nation much foreign exchange,” she said while addressing the crowd.
Advising the Federal Government to diversify the economy largely depending on oil, the presenter said, “For the Federal Government to diversify the economy from oil, it must encourage local manufacturers and give them necessary support to help the economy. That is why we are out today to drum up support for locally made products.”
Udom also enjoined Nigerians to support made in Nigeria product like Eko FM through the Proudly Naija Show has been doing ever since. “We found that a lot of local producers need help and encouragement, they need information and financial input to position their products for maximum profit and that is the reason for our program, Proudly Naija Show on Eko 89.7FM every Saturday by 5:30pm.
“For several months we have featured brands and businesses that wouldn’t have been able to access the media and we intend to work with bigger brands to support the program so that smaller brands can also come up,” she said.
She however called for support for the radio program. “We are also using this avenue to call for sponsorships for the Proudly Naija Show on Eko 89.7FM, we need the support of well-meaning Nigerians in terms of adverts to keep powering the program.
“Advertising on the program is a way of boosting any brand because that is what business owners, startups and a lot of the operators of Nigeria’s MSMEs and SMEs listen to between 5:30pm and 6pm every Saturday.
“Your business must definitely have value for the advertisement when you advertise or make appearance on the show,” she concluded.
Also at the rally was Mr. Peter Oloje, the Chief Executive Officer of Valborge-Selma Limited and one of the sponsors of the event who expressed optimism about the revival of made in Nigeria products.
According to Oloje, “Nigerians have to patronise local products in order to encourage our own brands which can also compete in the international market.”
The rally left the frontage of the Ikeja Local Government for the start venue at LTV8 premies in Ikeja.
