History was made as Otuan kingdom, Southern Ijaw local Government Area of Bayelsa State now has a deputy paramount ruler.
Speaking with journalists Saturday, at Otuan during the election of the deputy royal father, chairman, electoral committee of Otuan, comrade Godbless Manofwar said the community through consultations in order to make way for innovations and expanding the scope of leadership opted for the conduct of election to create the position of deputy paramount ruler which before now has not existed in the kingdom.
According to Manofwar, three indigenes of the kingdom, chiefs Lucky Daniel, Paris Digifa and mr. IDL Ogun picked forms for the position, hence Saturday 18th August was fixed for the election with only delegates from the five autonomous communities of the kingdom expected to cast their votes.
In a pre-election chat with newsmen, chiefs Lucky Daniel, Paris Digifa and mr IDL Ogun reiterated their commitments to serve their kingdom to the best of their abilities. The aspirants promised patriotism and their continuous loyalty to the kingdom, stressing that they will continue to attract development to the kingdom base on their individual track record.
Meanwhile the electoral committee has declared mr IDL Ogun the winner of the election.
Information reaching our newsdesk reveals that Ogun polled 64 votes to defeat his closest rival, chief Lucky Daniel who scored 42 votes as against chief Paris Digifa who got 40 votes from a total of 146 valid votes.
Reacting to the result, the first runner up, chief Lucky Daniel said though he has accepted the outcome of the election and has since promised to work with the deputy paramount ruler-elect, he believed money played some role as according to him information reaching his campaign management had it that few hours to the election there were alleged horse-trading.
In a chat with journalists, the deputy monarch-elect thanked the Otuan kingdom for voting him en mass, re-emphasizing that he will not rest on his oars in assisting the kingdom monarch, HRH Tokpo Edward in discharging the duties of his office promptly and accurately.
Chief Ogun said with his election, cultism and other social vices will reduce to the barest minimum as there would not be a hideout for criminal elements in the kingdom.
