As the Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women Day, the Nigeria Women Journalists in Bayelsa state took the celebration to the markets and streets of Yenagoa to sensitize the women on the need to accord all children equal rights and ensured they play active participation in politics for the women to be part of policy making in the country.
According to the South – South Zonal President of NAWOJ , Timi Jombo parents should accord the same attention to all children and told the women that gone were the days when the girl chil education was neglected, whereas attention were given only to the male child. She said NAWOJ has been on forefront to canvass for the change in the narratives, because the girl child is endowed with the same capacity and capability towards the development of society as history is replete with women that had excelled in many endeavors of life. She canvass for gender parity.
Also speaking the chairperson , NAWOJ in Bayelsa state Maria Olodi – Osumah called on women to register in the ongoing registration exercise and obtain their permanent voter Registration Cards so that they can participate effectively to enthrone credible leaders who will liberate the women and children from current quagmire they found themselves in the society. And by that they can also not vote, but be voted for in elective positions in every ramifications of politics.
They took the campaign round the ever busy Mbiama- Yenagoa road.
