The last has not been heard about the crisis sparked by the land tussle in Igode area of Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State during which the peace of the area was disturbed while some members of the Olota family were allegedly attacked.
National Wire had broken the news when the crisis erupted few weeks ago while the peace of the area was threatened. Due to the comments made by one of the alleged attackers of one of the Olota family committee members, Chief Solabi’s family in Igode via Sagamu, Mr. Wasiu Sikiru in the Igode Land fracas in our recent publication, the family committee members in charge of the affairs of the Olota family in Igode have come out to tell their own side of the story.
Alhaji Abayomi Adaboyan, Baale Itunlosi Igode who is from the Olota family committee said Wasiu Sikiru and his gang are children of the Olota family and that he is yet to fathom the reason they have decided to invite land grabbers to the family land causing serious unrest within the family.
On why some of the family members decided to take the family committee to court, the Baale, Alhaji Adaboyan said he cannot say anything about the land matter because the case is already in court but mentioned that Wasiu and his gang have been using police officers to terrorize the committee leaders before taking them to court.
“I cannot talk much about the land dispute because the case has been taken to High Court 3 in Sagamu. It is Wasiu Sikiru, Kasim Kalejaiye alias Obamowo, Lekan Lamidi Oyenuga, Wale Edehingbo, and Gbenga Owolewa, that went to challenge the family members in court.
“Before then, the Secretary, Rev. Dixson JP and I were arrested in March 2017; we were locked up for three days before we were able to secure bail. The policemen that came claimed they were from the force CID Abuja, Inspector Innocent and Inspector Mustapha. We were asked to come to Abuja on April 6, 2017 with Alhaji Sikiru Oseni Akodu, the head of the Olotu family that they were unable to arrest because he wasn’t in town but I told them that I had an important appointment that day and the date was changed to the 8th of April but on the night of 7th April 2017 at exactly 7pm, Inspector Mustapha called me that the other party led by Wasiu Sikiru said they can’t make the appointment the next day,” he said.
He explained further that on the 8th of April, the day they were all supposed to go to Abuja, Wasiu’s team that claimed they wouldn’t be able to make the appointment, went with another set of policemen to arrest me after arresting Olotu and Apena.
“They thought I was inside and so they scaled through my fence broke my windows, tore my window nets, and stole the family file that I was brain storming on and the sum of ₦200,000 that I collected from Access bank around 11am on 7th April, 2017. According to my sister and wife who were at the other building, the policemen came with Wasiu and Idris Elegbeji alias Sigaba, Wasiu Afolabi and Gbenga Owolewa and about 20 others.
“They forcefully entered my house and beat up my sister who protested that the police have no right to allow hoodlums do their job for them. It was when I was informed of what was going on in my compound that I called my elders sister and wife and told them to go and make a report at Sagamu Area Command but they were told to go to Igbogbo division but again, they were turned back at Igbogbo to go and report at the division where the policemen came from, but nobody knew were they came from except Wasiu and his gang that brought them to my house.
“I came back home that evening and took pictures of my windows that were destroyed. It was later that day that I found out that they took them to ZIS office. Olotu and Apena were granted bail and we were asked to come on the 11th of April. Before the 11th, I contacted family members and committees that were available and we went to a media station to tell the story of what happened.
“On the long run we had a meeting with ZIS boss, Gbenga Megbope and the meeting was postponed and we were asked to come with all evidences but on the day we were supposed to meet, Wasiu team didn’t show up and we later got to know that we have been charged to court to protest infringement on their fundamental human right, the family won the case because the case was struck out on 25th of July, 2017 but the land case is still ongoing so I can’t talk about it.” Baale explained.
On the attack on Apena’s family, Baale said he heard about it but didn’t witness the incidence because he had left Igode since 27th of March 2017. “I heard that Apena’s family was attacked and that he was also arrested. I had to leave Igode, 16 miles from where I stay presently in Ikorodu for safety because it was obvious that my life was at stake. They even found their way here with the help of policemen who are supposed to protect the masses, destroyed my property and stole my money. On august 14, 2017, Wasiu and his gang threatened to kill my wife if she ever step foot into Igode and the matter was reported to Sagamu Area Command with a letter by my lawyer. Meanwhile, on steps taken on the unlawful behavior of the policemen that led the team that has been attacking them, disrupting the peace of the area, the Olotu of the family, Alhaji Sikiru Oseni Akodu responded that all the parties involved; Wasiu and his team are family members and that it is God that assists a cow that does not have tail to drive away the flies.
“The people using the police to harass and harm the family members, disturbing the peace are family members and our matter is like that of a Yoruba proverb which says that it is God that assists a cow that does not have tail to drive away the flies. We didn’t write to petition any policeman. We have graduates amongst us, we can write petition but the fear is, who are we to give when it is the same police that is being used against us. We are already in court and we, the family believe that God will see us through and we are not and cannot deny the fact that the people disturbing the peace of the family are our brethren.
“Eleda is a land grabber and not part of our family. I was already arrested and was in the police vehicle when they came to vandalize Baale’s house. They were even asking me if I knew the place and I said no. All casinos listed are our partners from whom https://starlitenewsng.com/casino-online-non-aams-bonus-senza-deposito/ we earn a commission. Baale’s wife and his sister were beaten like thieves and were also bundled into the vehicle and the women were shocked to see that I have been arrested but they later released the women.
“My take on this matter is that once the family has saddled you with the responsibility of family affairs, one has to be very patient and tolerant especially the Baale, secretary and Olotu who are usually the target. Wasiu and his crew call us thieves but when they ask them to present evidence or say what we stole, they become quite and have nothing to show or point to that we have stolen,” he lamented.
