The corpse of Oluseye Adekunle, the man who jumped into the Lagoon around Lekki Toll gate to commit suicide on Friday was, early today at about 5.00 am, discovered by a local fisherman.
The body was floating by the river bank, around Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge before it was recovered from the lagoon by the coordinated efforts of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Marine Police and handed over to the State Environmental Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
It has since been deposited at the Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary.
In a joint press conference of emergency responders at the scene of the incident, the General Manager LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu, Managing Director, Damilola Emmanuel, and the DPO Maroko Police Station declared the recovery exercise closed at 11.30 am as the dead body had been recovered.
The General Manager LASEMA said the Police will carry out further investigation on the matter. He further reiterated that that the situation in the country is not so bad as to warrant any individual to take his life. He enjoined Lagosians to always endeavour to be their brother’s keeper by reporting any of such incidents on time, so as to avoid a repeat of such ugly incidents in the State.
