Police kill 2 kidnapers, recover N1.1m ransom in Niger

Nemesis has caught up with some notorious   kidnappers in Niger state , following the killings of two members of the gang  by the police  during a gun duel with the hoodlums in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

Also recovered rexocered from the gangsters was the sum of N1.1million, out of the N2million ransom said to have been earlier collected by the suspects from their victim recently .
Confirming the incidence, was the Image Maker of tge state Police Command, DSP Babalola O.  Adewole, in a press statement issued in Minna on Monday and made available to newsmen.

Adewole  stated further, that one Bashir Alhaji Nadarare, of Karaya village in Rafi local government was kidnapped on July  4tg, 2017 by the hoodlums and released the victim  on 12th September,  after the victim had allegedly paid a ransom of N2million to the gangsters.

He said, “on 13/09/2017 the gunmen were sighted around Rima hills in  Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government by  a team of police detectives attached to Kagara Division, who mobilized and raided their  criminal hideout.

DSP, Adewole stated further  that when  the hoodlums sighted the police, they  engaged the police in gun duel which lasted for hours,  after which two of the hoodlums were fatally injured”.

He said that two AK 49 rifles and 20 rounds of live  ammunition and the sum of N1.1million,  being part of the ransom paid by the relatives of the victim were recovered.

He said that other members of the gang escaped with bullet fun shots wounds while calling  on all hospitals within the area to report cases of bullet wounds brought to them for treatment to the police.

In anothet development,  the police have also arrested two persons in connection with the murder of one Terna Cletus in Tarfa local government of the state.

Adebowale said that the suspects were students of Durben Polytechnic in Garam while they were residents  in Azeh Garam village of Tafa local government area of the state .

Meanwhile, he also disclosed  said that the police have arrested a 25-year old man, Umar Hamisu from Lapia town in Lapai Local Government of the state over allegation of raping an 8- year old girl, who was hawking groundnuts before she was lured by the suspect.

He said the suspect, now in the police custody has since confessed to the crime during an investigation by the police, adding that as soon as investigation was concluded in the matter, that the suspect would soon be charged to court for unlawful canal knowledge of the victim, whom he described as a minor. .
