The Police Commissioner in Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Owoseni has warned residents of the state to desist from jungle justice.
Owoseni who gave the warning at Ikorodu on Tuesday also promised that anyone caught involving in jungle justice would be charged to court.
The CP debunked the myth name of Badoo which he said has been given a media hype by the media because Badoo, jungle justice and other barbaric crimes will only deepen the bad security situation in Ikorodu.
The police boss however went philosophical saying ‘charity must begin from home, noting that the various communities and traditional rulers in Ikorodu must tackle the crises in their domain whereby erasing the impression of labeling every crime in the area as activities of Badoo boys.
He emphasized more on community policing and the need to revisit previous crime scenes of related killing to recreate the events in different scenarios to deduce scientific reasoning in the cause of investigation. Owoseni also did not hold his words from cautioning the police DPOs and Area Commander from professional conduct and for them to recommit themselves to the job of protecting lives and property which according to him cannot be done without the traditional rulers
The Lagos State Police Command however want all hands to be on deck in order to put an end to security challenges in Ikorodu area of the state. Owoseni also said the people must cooperate to stop the impunity of jungle justice being perpetrated by the residence on innocent citizens, advising residents to endeavour to know their neighbours.
At Ibese, Ikorodu, Owoseni also advised residents to ensure cleanliness and make sure they get rid of bushes around them where hoodlums can easily re-group. He also advised women to be extra careful and report suspicious movements in their neighbourhood.
“That there is no light is a general norm, that the road is bad is a national anthem but these are not enough excuses to take laws into your hands. When you burn suspects, you have closed the roads that could have led to series of revelations and I can tell you that most of the people behind the jungle justice are behind the perpetrators. “It is time we cooperate by giving evidences so as to put the criminals behind bars. If residence do not show police the way, because they are the ones that know the nook and cranny, it will be difficult for police to overcome crime and criminalities.
