Delta Lawmakers impeach Speaker, Monday Igbuya on Thursday

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya has been impeached Thursday morning.

The impeachment took place when 22 of 29 members of the state House of Assembly signed the impeachment notice.

Hon Sherriff Oborevwori has been elected as the new speaker of the House.

Hon. Igbuya was accused of incompetence and high handedness by his colleagues. The new Speaker, who represents Okpe constituency in the House, is a foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the oil-rich state.

The House at the plenary presided over by Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Friday Osanebi, also sacked Hon Tim Owhofere as majority leader and elected Hon Johnson Erijo in his place.
