U.S to restrict entry to semi-skilled migrants

The United States of America will soon adopt an immigration system that favours only individuals with higher skills, to replace the current system it says is now “outdated and depresses wages as it benefits only the migrants with lower skills.”

President Donald Trump said the country would adopt the merit-based immigration system the way Canada, New Zealand and other countries have done as, according to him, it is a basic principle that those seeking to enter a country ought to be able to support themselves financially.

The U.S President said this Wednesday in his Joint Address to the Congress with the assurance that with such a measure being taken, America will raise wages, help the unemployed, save billions of dollars, and make communities safer for everyone.

“Nations around the world, like Canada, Australia and many others, have a merit-based immigration system,” he said to a loud applause, adding, “we do not enforce this rule, straining the very public resources that our poorest citizens rely upon. According to the National Academy of Sciences, our current immigration system costs American taxpayers many billions of dollars a year.”

He lamented the fact that U.S had spent over $6 trillion in the Middle East alone while infrastructure suffered at home, saying the time “has come for a new program of national rebuilding.”

He, therefore, asked the Congress to approve legislation that produces a $1 trillion investment in infrastructure of the United States that is to be financed through both public and private capital with the goal of creating millions of new jobs.

Trump also emphasized that he would soon begin the construction of a “great, great wall along our southern border. As we speak tonight, we are removing gang members, drug dealers, and criminals that threaten our communities and prey on our very innocent citizens.”
