Drama in Court as Buruji Kashamu claimed he spent 2 Years in Primary School

There was a mild drama at the Ogun State High Court 5 before Justice Akinyemi on Wednesday as the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Sen. Buruji Kashamu claimed before the judge that he spent only two years to graduate from primary school.

Senator Kashamu had during cross examination in a libel suit AB/297/2016 which he filed against another lawmaker, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, admitted that he was born in 1958 and left primary school in 1966.

He was however left confused when the defense lawyer, Barrister Edward Ayo-Odugbesan reminded him that he must have left primary school at 8 years old from his date of birth, and granting that he was admitted at 6 years old (as he also alluded), he had only spent two years.

The Senator who is currently facing extradition suit instituted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, over links with a cartel indicted for trafficking cargoes of heroine into the United States is seeking the order of court to detain anyone who refers to him as a fugitive.

Buruji in his final submission denied ever being on the US Wanted list while most of the evidence and exhibits he rendered were discredited under cross-examinations by Odugbesan.

A visibly angry Buruji Kashamu started uttering abusive words at the defendant other leaders in the witness box when he was asked questions on how and why he fell out with most leaders of his political party, the PDP, and it took the restraining order and intervention of the presiding judge who cautioned him.

Meanwhile, Ayo-Odugbesan has applied to file an application to invite the United States Ambassador to Nigeria to come and tender judgments of Kasamu’s conviction and warrant of arrest in court.

The defense lawyer further queried why instituted court actions against NDLEA, AGF, Police and other law enforcement agencies against his extradition to the US if he was truly not wanted. He was also queried on why he described going to America as “Jumping into Hell fire” in a newspaper publication if he was not wanted by the US Authorities.

All legal papers and suits as well as the purported judgments from British courts and Chicago America indicting him were admitted in evidence as exhibits.

The matter was however adjourned for continuation of trial, application and Cross examination to Thursday 2nd day of February, 2017.
