Baring any last minute changes, House of Assembly aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), in Bayelsa State have been given until Wednesday 6th May, 2026 as deadline for the submission of purchased expression of interest and nomination forms for the party’s state assembly primaries.
National Wire gathered that the party’s House of assembly primaries were slated to take place in three weeks time across the nation.
Our Source which has been monitoring the ongoing purchase and submission of the nomination forms of the party in the State reports that plans of those awaiting to be anointed as consensus candidates may have been dashed as number of aspirants from constituencies have increased astronomically few days to the end of the exercise.
Reports have it that save for Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the incumbent Speaker who does not have any viable opposition in the forthcoming primaries of the party in his Brass Constituency three seat, inside sources have however revealed that no fewer than four aspirants each have purchased nomination forms for the remaining 23 out of the 24 State constituencies of the homogeneous Ijaw State.
Speaking with newsmen, former Chairman of Ogbia local government area, Chief Ebiango Egain and aspirant for the Ogbia Constituency one Assembly seat expressed the optimism that he will win the primaries.
He emphasized his readiness to synergize with stakeholders across his constituency and the State to work towards a more impactful leadership if elected in the 2027 polls.
The assembly hopeful noted that it was time those who have made impacts and who are popular across party lines get elected into the state legislature.
”You can’t stop the rain from falling. You can see the mammoth crowed which has accompanied me just to submit my nomination form.
”Imagine what will happen during the elections.Victory is sure. It’s time to elect those who have made impacts in peoples lives into the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. Ogbia constituency one can’t be left out this time”, he said.
Also speaking, Engr. Tonbara Inegbegha, aspirant for Southern Ijaw constituency one, promised to continue touching lives of his constituents if he emerges as candidate in the primaries and eventually wins in the general elections.
He charged youths to take up political leadership, saying older folks should leave the House of Assembly seats for much younger and vibrant youths.
He described the forthcoming APC primaries as decision making time for youths across the state.
”Older folks should leave the House of Assembly seats for youths. The State Assembly, for me is the beginning of leadership for youths to learn the political landscape.
”Our youths are vibrant and productive. And if elected I’ll bring this to bear in my tenure as an assembly member”, he said.
Similarly, an aspirant for the Southern Ijaw constituency two, Hon. Myson Izonebi has urged stakeholders to kick against the imposition of candidates on his constituents during the party primaries.
He noted that from 1999-date, the Southern Ijaw constituency two which he said was made up of communities of Oporoma and Tarakiri clans has been politically been dominated by the former which has wielded the assembly seat for far too long.
Izonebi stressed that he was a grass root politician and loyal party man who who will serve his fellow constituents with dignity and loyalty and therefore intend to continue in that trajectory if he wins the primaries and 2027 assembly polls.
Meanwhile, incumbent members of the state Assembly stagging return to the legislature have refused to speak with newsmen monitoring the exercise.
Political observers predicted that the lawmakers may have preferred keeping mum following the alleged exclusion of some of them from participating in the forthcoming primaries due to zoning arrangements in their constituencies as well as other yet to identify social expediencies.
