All federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have been directed to immediately audit and reinforce their cybersecurity systems, following recent concerns affecting parts of the Corporate Affairs Commission’s digital infrastructure.
The directive came from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), which confirmed it is already working with CAC to deploy coordinated response measures in line with national cybersecurity frameworks.
In a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Mrs Hadiza Umar, NITDA said the move is meant to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain service integrity across government platforms.
NITDA reminded MDAs that proactive cybersecurity measures are mandatory under the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021. The agency said emerging threats targeting government systems and sensitive data require urgent action.
As part of the government-wide order, MDAs must now conduct comprehensive security assessments, fix identified vulnerabilities, and tighten access controls on critical platforms.
The directive also covers data protection mechanisms, backup and disaster recovery systems, and enhanced monitoring to detect and respond to suspicious activities.
NITDA further stressed the need for functional incident response frameworks across all MDAs. Agencies are expected to promptly report cybersecurity breaches to enable coordinated federal intervention.
According to the statement, detailed cybersecurity guidelines have already been circulated to MDAs for implementation. The goal is to strengthen resilience across public sector digital infrastructure and improve the overall security posture of government institutions.
While NITDA did not detail the specific issues at CAC, it confirmed that both agencies have activated response and assurance mechanisms to address recent concerns affecting aspects of the Commission’s digital systems.
The CAC holds registration and regulatory data for millions of Nigerian companies, making its platforms a critical national digital asset.
NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government agencies in safeguarding digital systems and advancing cybersecurity best practices across the public sector.
The directive signals heightened federal attention on cyber risk as more government services move online and threat actors increasingly target public databases.
