The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, has expressed deep satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing nationwide police recruitment exercise, describing it as orderly, transparent, and a critical step toward rebuilding public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 15, 2026, after receiving field reports from officers monitoring the screening across the country, Gaidam said the exercise goes beyond routine enlistment.
“This is more than recruitment; it is a call to national service,” the Minister stated. “Nigeria needs men and women of honor, individuals who understand that security is the foundation upon which development and prosperity are built.
The Minister urged applicants to remain law-abiding, disciplined, and patient throughout the screening stages. He stressed that while physical and academic qualifications are important, integrity and respect for due process are equally critical.
“The future of policing in Nigeria depends largely on the character and commitment of those who wear the uniform,” Gaidam said. He noted that the process is designed to select candidates who embody professionalism and accountability, key pillars of ongoing police reforms.
Gaidam extended appreciation to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he called a “bold and strategic” approval of the recruitment of 50,000 police personnel. He described the move as unprecedented, reflecting a clear resolve to address longstanding manpower gaps and reposition the Force to meet modern security challenges.
Beyond boosting numbers, the Minister said the current administration is focused on meaningful reform aimed at transforming policing into a more professional, accountable, and citizen-centered institution. He pointed to improved training frameworks, enhanced welfare, and stronger operational support as signals of a new era for law enforcement in Nigeria.
According to Gaidam, the nationwide screening represents a bridge between present security challenges and a future where communities feel safer, justice is more accessible, and the rule of law is upheld without compromise.
“Nigeria’s path to a safer, more secure future is being steadily strengthened through deliberate reforms and renewed commitment to nation-building,” he said. “At the heart of this progress is the ongoing nationwide police recruitment screening exercise, an initiative that reflects both hope and responsibility for thousands of young Nigerians.”
As the screening continues across all states, the Minister called on traditional leaders, community members, and institutions to support the process. He encouraged eligible youths to participate with sincerity and patriotism, noting that community buy-in is vital to producing a police force that reflects national values.
The recruitment drive is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to scale up internal security capacity amid evolving threats. Officials say the new intakes will undergo updated training modules aligned with global policing standards before deployment.
