FOC West Applauds Tony Elumelu, For Outstanding Contributions To Economic Development

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, has commended the Chairman, United Bank for Africa Group, Mr. Tony Elumelu, for his outstanding contributions to economic development across Africa.

He eulogized him, particularly, for his entrepreneurship empowerment initiatives which has impacted thousands of young Africans.

Rear Admiral Mustapha gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, Chairman, UBA Group on Tuesday, 17th March, 2026, to strengthen existing ties between the Nigerian Navy and the bank.

During the visit, the FOC used the opportunity to convey the goodwill of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), as he introduced himself as the 46th Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Apapa.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to securing the maritime domain in Nigeria’s western region through enhanced surveillance, technology and intelligence sharing, while also extending an invitation to the Nigerian Navy’s forthcoming 70th Anniversary and International Fleet Review.

In his response, Mr Elumelu, renowned for his leadership in banking and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation expressed his appreciation for the visit and the FOC’s appointment. He reaffirmed his continued support for the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in promoting maritime security and national development.
