The Niger State chapter of the All Progressives Congress( APC) and members-elect have endorsed the candidature of Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan as the Senate President and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly, in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, Abuja.
The State’ s party Chairman, Engr. Jibrin Imam and member-elect, Hon. Mahmud Abdullahi disclosed this at a Press conference held on Sunday in Minna, the state capital, shortly after a meeting with party members.
Engr. Jibrin Imam who stated that the press conference was a follow up to the meeting held last Thursday in Abuja comprising all Governors and party Chairmen from the North Central geo- political zone , on the leadership of the 9th Assembly said, ” the stance of the party at the state level is to enable a smooth ride for the government of APC and to show their loyalty to the party as well.
He stated further that the endorsement was to avert the reoccurrence of the experience in the 8th Assembly in 2015, which he described as unpalatable, adding that the experience had slow down “our progress in the last four years.”
“We are loyal party members and have resolved to tow the position of the party by endorsing Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan as the Senate President of the 9th Assembly and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly.”
“Our experience in the 8th Assembly is not palatable and it has slow down our progress in the last Four years and we don’t want a repeat of that”, he added.
The State party Chairman thereby called on those who are aggrieved as a result of the decision taken to support the course so as to enable the 9th House of Representatives have a smooth ride in the next four years.
Speaking on behalf of the members of the House of Representatives in the State, Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud, representing Agaie/ Lapai Federal Constituency in the 9th Assembly said that all the members elect from the State as well as from the North Central region have resolved to support the two candidates endorsed by the party.
He then assured that the people of the State would continue to support the party’s resolutions in order to ensure that it succeeds in all aspects.
Present in the meeting were Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello, the state party chairman, Engr. Jibrin Imam, party secretary, Barr. Liman, Deputy state Chairman, Alh. Aliyu Ladan, party Treasurer, Dr. Shafii Abdulsalam, party Financial Secretary, Idris Mohammed.
Others include member representing Agaie/Lapai, Hon. Mamud Abdullahi, member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha, Hon. Saidu Abdullahi, member representing Lavun/Edati/Mokwa, Hon. Abdullahi Batamangi, member representing Chanchaga, Hon. Muhammed Umar Bago.
Also at the meeting included member representing Bosso/Paiko, Federal Constituency, Hon. Baruwa Bosso, and his counterparts representing Gurara/Tafa/Suleja, Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Ado Tafa member representing Shiroro/Munya, Federal Constituency, Hon. Captain Chiri, member representing Kontagora/Mashegi/ Mariga/Wushishi, Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Garba, member representing Rijau/Magama, Federal Constituency, Hon. Shehu Slow and member representing Borgu/Agwara, Federal Constituency, Hon. Jafaru Mohammed and and the State Chairman of the party( APC) Engr Mohammed Jibrin Imam.
