Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has taken a swipe at civil servants and politicians who championed the clamour for Change, regretting that “Many people who clamoured to make the change possible are not working for the change to permeate into the lives of citizenry”.
Bello lampooned civil servants including; Judges, the Police and Medical personnel in the state for attitude towards service delivery to humanity in his speech to mark Nigeria’s 56th Independence Day celebration at the Minna Trade Fair complex.
“There are two challenges that have been giving me sleepless night: we all have been shouting the Change slogan but I am disappointed because the change is only heard but not yet with us, whether you are a Doctor, Police, Politician or High Court Judge”.
Bello who said he is worried by the attitude of those who knows and who should protect the masses instead of causing them more pains said, “The day the Nigerian Police and the Judiciary will uphold the law and act in accordingly is the day things will change for the better in Nigeria”.
“We must move away from the way we have been doing business; we must pity those that don’t have, and those who can’t help themselves. Everyone has a role to play, especially at the General Hospitals, if you see the way some patients are treated by Nurses and Doctors is very inhumane, to the extent that the patients may get sickened the more”.
He said, “We must change our attitude to doing things especially in the civil service system whereby Directors and Permanent Secretaries throws decorum to the dogs by employing their own children and people knowing that they won’t work. We are the problems to ourselves”.
The rate of corruption and abuse of office is so alarming including among those singing the Change slogan the loudest, “How can a local government council claim it has 5, 000 workers? How possible is it? Where are the officers and the chairs to accommodate them? he rhetorically asked.
“We ought to be ashamed of ourselves, we don’t have dignity. How can we be priding ourselves about that we are a civil servants State when there are other means of generating Revenue. A lot of us don’t have conscience, everybody cares about themselves”.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ibrahim Isah Ladan had earlier called on Nigerlites to re-dedicate themselves to the service of their fatherland and Niger state in particular by, ‘living the change we preach’.
Ladan appeared to Nigerlites to support the Sani Bello administration for decisive and progressive in consolidating on the achievements so far recorded in the areas of provision of; provision of good roads, resuscitation of our schools, reviving the healthcare delivery system, youth and women empowerment initiatives and improved security.
