… 210 Involved In Jail Break, 30 , Rearrested – Minister Of Interior

Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau (rtd.)has stated in Minna on Monday that out of the 210 inmates that were involved in jail break during an attack on the prison by some unknown bandits at about 8:30 pm- 9pm on Sunday, that only 30 of the run away inmates have been re-arrested by security agencies in the state.
He said 182 persons were still at large adding that the fleeing inmates will be arrested very soon, as efforts were being made to track them with a view to arrest them and bring them back to the prison custody
While addressing newsmen after an on-the-spot assessment after the Sunday night prison jail break in Minna, Dambazau said that two condemned prisoners who were to be confirmed for death sentence were among the escapees.
The Minister explained that this was probelably part of the motivation for the attack on the prison by the yet umknown bandits who aided the prison break on Sunday, while assuring that investigation into the immediate and remote casue of the attack on the prison would bring out most of these.
The Minister also noted that there were some security gaps which must be covered which was said to have led to the success of the illegal operation by the fleeing gunmen, saying that “my visit revealed some security gaps which must be tackled to prevent future re-occurrence.”
He thereby said that a committee have been set up by the Comotroller General of Nigerian Prisons Service , Jaafaru Ahmed to investigate the incident, adding that the Ministry will work with the report of the committee after it must have completed its assignment.
Also, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Prison Service, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed doused the fears that there were Boko Haram inmates being remanded in the Medium Security Prison at Rafin Tailor “B” Minna which was the reason why the prison was attacked.
“There is no Boko Haram suspect in Minna Prison facility. We do not know who attacked the prison yet but investigations will reveal it, ” the Prison Boss assured .
He was however not forthcoming on how the gunmen gained access into the prison or the number of the officials on duty or injured officials.
Also, the Governor of Niger state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello who described the incident as unfortunate said that the state government was set to partner with the federal government towards ensuring that there is no future re-occurrence.
He disclosed further that the incident have opened the eyes of the government that there was shortage of manpower in the Medium Security Prison, Minna.
