…Holds Sensitization Rally ‘Morrow
The Organized Labour in Bayelsa State under the auspices of the Workers Political Movement (WPM) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the dates of the proposed distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to Local Governments in Bayelsa State which the Commission has slated from 12th-18th November, 2022 across all registration areas in Nigeria.
In a statement jointly signed by Comrade John Angese and Comrade David Emiebor, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Workers Political Movement (WPM), noted that the call was premised on the fact that the state is still under flood and most of the towns and villages are inaccessible and uninhabitable which may likely persist through the proposed period.
The statement also commended Governor Douye Diri for showing leadership by not only empathising with the people of the state but going to impacted communities to encourage the people and providing relief materials within available resources.
The statement called on the State Government to engage INEC to consider the peculiar challenges of Bayelsa State to check possible voter apathy.
Meanwhile, the Workers Political Movement will tomorrow hold a sensitisation rally to educate and enlighten workers in the Public and Private sectors on the need to collect their PVCs and vote in the forthcoming general elections as their civic responsibility.
The WPM noted that the move was to create more consciousness on the Nigerian workforce to be interested in who governs them for better working conditions.
The statement from the WPM added that the rally will begin from OMPADEC junction Amarata, in Yenagoa, the state capital from seven o’clock in the morning and terminate at the State Secretariat, respectively.
