House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), in the forthcoming 2023 polls for Sagbama Constituency Two of Bayelsa State, Hon.Humphrey Highlife has lampooned the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its candidate for the constituency, Hon.(Col.) Bennerd Sunday Kenebai (rtd) for alleged disregard for the zoning arrangement existing in the Constituency prior to the latter’s entrance into politics.
Highlife handed down the criticisms on the duo while speaking with Journalists in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital shortly on his arrival from a palliative distribution outreach he carried out in the Constituency to mitigate the impact of the floods in the Constituency.
He noted that from the inception of the extant democratic governance in 1999, no serving House of Assembly member from the Constituency has gone for a third term, describing the Kenebai’s candidacy of the PDP for a third term as an infringement on the rights and sensibilities of other supposedly qualified citizens of the constituency.
The Assembly hopeful who revealed that his constituency comprises three distinct clans of the Sagbama council area gave the names of the clans as Mein, Oyakiri and Kumbo, respectively.
He alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party and its incumbent Assembly member were foisting themselves on the constituency for a third term which they never deserved, due to the old zoning arrangement in the area reached for purposes of even representation and political inclusivity.
Speaking on his personal assessment of the incumbent’s performance in office for the past seven years, Highlife alleged that the PDP candidate has not impacted positively on the constituency, alleging that the only constituency project he knew was carried out by the current serving Assembly member and PDP candidate was a floating public convenience (public toilet) in one of the villages of the constituency.
The APC Candidate who attributed his candidacy to the yearning by his constituents for better representation called on the Constituency to keep fate in his candidacy, saying the only way out of the myriads of political oppression and underdevelopment in the constituency is to vote out Kenebai and vote him in as their representative in the forthcoming elections.
He said: “Imagine we don’t even have a road to drive to most of the villages in the Constituency except Kumbo clan (Sagbama town) and Ogobiri-Mein. But we’ve a bridge which was constructed and was expected to link most of our communities of the Constituency, yet there’s no road until date, except going by boat which most of the times is even hard to get.
” For close to eight years Kenebai has been in the office as the elected Assembly member of the constituency and there’s nothing to show for it. Infact he’s so inaccessible to our constituents. But by God’s grace I’m in touch with the constituents even in this trying times, occasioned by the ravaging floods. If only they could vote him out and vote me in, there would be a big difference”.
