The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) has said that it has zoned the Gubernatorial seat to the Niger North Senatorial District, the same district where the incumbent state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) hailed from.

It stated this on Sunday in Minna, the state capital while speaking through the state chairman of the party, Barr. Tanko Beji when he received PDP leaders from the senatorial zone led by the Zonal vice chairman Alhaji Yahaya Ability.

Tank Beji said the decision to zone the governorship seat to the zone was in the “interest of fairness, equity and justice”

Already a leader of the party in the state and member board of trustees Alhaji Abdulkhadri kure has also thrown his weight behind the plan to zone the governorship to the Niger North senatorial district.

However Kure in supporting Zone C for the ticket warned that the governor from the area would only be allowed one term since a candidate from the area had spent the first four years.

Tanko Beji who did not give any condition when he made the announcement asked the PDP members from the state to “put your house in order so that we will not have a repeat of what happened in the past”.

The PDP state chairman said other geopolitical zones in the state would work to ensure that the governorship candidate emerged from the area.

” We will not impose any candidate on the party the people will be allowed to freely make a choice of who they want to lead them, even at the councillorship level”.

Mr Beji asked the supporters of the party in the state to “close ranks and eschew unnecessary crisis that will derail the ongoing reconciliation efforts”.

The Zonal vice chairman Alhaji Yahaya Ability who spoke on behalf of the delegation told the party chairman that the PDP in the zone had been reformed and would reclaim the political leadership of the area come 2019.

Among the delegation were former governorship aspirants, ministers and ambassadors and local government chairmen.
