There has been panic since Wednesday morning as customers of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) around the Lagos metropolis have been experiencing difficulties in transaction.
One of the bank’s customers around Abule Egba area of Lagos told National Wire this afternoon that customers have besieged the bank due to some rumour making the rounds that the bank is having problems with network since morning.
“We have been here for hours and we don’t really know what is wrong with the network. The bank is one that has good customer relations and good crowd control but for hours its been hell here,” says a customer simply identified as Olatayo.
Another customer, who introduced himself as Adesanya Olugbenga told National Wire how difficult it had been to use the bank’s *737* facility.
“I have been trying to purchase recharge card from GTB which I usually do almost on a daily basis but I didn’t get through and I had to borrow from MTN which I don’t fancy. The network has been bad today and not good for the bank’s image,” he said.
Meanwhile there have been rumour that the GTB may have been having some other issues unknown to the customers and which may facilitate panic withdrawal.
However, there has been no official statement from the bank as regards the rumour and hopefully the technical issues regarding the bank’s network would be resolved soon.
“Banks often experience network problems and I don’t think it is a big deal. More so, there has been no official statement from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or from the GTB itself regarding any thing that can cause panic. The bank is one of the best in Nigeria and a customer-friendly one, there should be no reason for panic,” says a customer who claims to have been on the line for some time who also refused to mention his name.
