No fewer than 12 petitions have been filed at the National Assembly and Governorship Election petition tribunal in Minna, the Niger state capital.
The Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja constituted election petition tribunal across the country to receive petitions that might likely emanate from the conduct of February 25 presidential and National Assembly Elections and March 18 Governorship and State Assembly elections.
Already, a 3-members panel of the National Assembly Elections petition tribunal have been deployed to the state High Court to preside over the 12 petitions received so far.
The 3-members panel to be headed by Justice A.O Opesanwo Mrs, Justice Nasiru Saminu and Justice Sylvester Popnen, while Abba Dahiru Umar will serve as the secretary of the tribunal.
The tribunal will be sitting at the Minna High Court 5 and 8 in the Nige State High Court Complex.
Among the petitions received include three from the senatorial districts of the state, while nine others emanated from the federal constituencies.
Barrister Isiyaku Ibrahim SAN of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a petition challenging the election of the incumbent Senator, representing Niger East Senatorial district at.the National Assembly Abuja,Senator Mohammed Sani Musa of the All Progressives Congress( APC). Senator Mohammed Bima of the All Progressives Congress of Niger South Senatorial district is challenging Barr. Peter Jiya Ndalikali of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), while Mohammed Shehu Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP). also filed his petition against the incumbent Governor of Niger State, and Senator -Elect, representing Niger North Senatorial District at the National Assembly,Abuja Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello who was elected as a Senator under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northern Senatorial district of the state
Similarly, nine of the petitions that emanated from the Federal House of Representatives across the three Senatorial Zones were filed at the tribunal.
Although the tribunal was yet to commence sitting but have ordered the inspection of electoral materials at the state office of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on David Mark road in Minna following requests from the legal teams of the petitioners.
