…Calls on Nigerians to support Govt in sports development

Alhaji Adamu Erena, The President, Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) Alhaji Adamu Erena, has emerged the regional Vice President, Africa Squash Federation (North).

Adamu Erena, a businessman who doubles as the Chairman, Niger State chapter of Independent Marketers was until his election into the coveted position as Regional President, Africa Squash Federation, (North) was also the chairman, Niger state Squash Association (NSSA) and the current President Nigeria Squash Federation emerged Africa’s regional Vice President to represent some African countries, including Nigeria at the world class Squash game.

The new Africa’s regional Vice President Squash spoke in an interview with some selected Journalists shortly after the opening of a two day north-central zonal Secondary Schools Squash Competition for Under-19 Boys and Girls taking place at the Minna Sports Club, David Mark road, Minna the state capital.

After the keenly contested election in South Africa, Erena, who took over from Mr. Femi Ajagbe, the former occupier of the post said he and five others from other African nations emerged leaders to promote the game of Squash in the continent and across the globe in general.

Erena noted that the economic recession in Nigeria presently has made it impossible for government alone to meet the needs of the citizens hence the need for stake holders in the Sports sector and the Organised Private sector to join hands to curtail negative influence on youths like armed robbery, kidnapping, Militants, hired assassins, cultism and other criminality through sports.

Contrary to the speculation in certain quarters that the Squash Federation has been bedevilled with crisis, Erena, explained that Nigeria Squash Federation under his leadership has recorded a number of achievements through sponsorship of championships in the past few years.

He added further that ss part of his contributions to sports development, he is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Sports (north-central) zonal office in Jos, Plateau state and the Niger State Ministry of Sports to organize a Squash championship aimed at discovering hidden talents in the zone.

Erena said in view of his passion for the game, that he has decided to sponsor the U-19 Secondary Schools Squash championship and called on well meaning Nigerians and corporate citizens to borrow a leaf from his own modest examples in securing the future of a number of talents languishing on the streets due to joblessness, by positively encouraging them to engage in sports.

Meanwhile, the new Afriacan Regional Vice President, Squash, has said that the zonal Secondary Schools Squash championship for the north-central xone of the country is featuring players from Seven states which includes Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa states and the host state, Niger as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Erena thereby appealed to Corporate organisations and well meaning and public Spirited citizens to support federal and state governments to create jobs for teeming jobless youths roaming the streets through sports development to keep them out of the streets where they could be easily influenced by bad pears influence .
