Niger state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello\u00a0 has applaudede Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence, Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar III, for his significant contributions to the unity, peace, progress and development of the country in his first decade on the throne.<\/p>\n

In a congratulatory message to the northern Nigeria\u2019s most eminent monarch and spiritual leader of the country\u2019s Muslims, governor Sani Bello described the Ten years reign of the Sultan as filled with immeasurable activities, challenges and overwhelming success.

\nThis was contained in a Press statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace,\u00a0that was made available to the news men in Minna, yesterday, adding that the Sultan has been able to bring hope and understanding where despair, desperation and uncertainty had taken hold.<\/p>\n

The release , cited the many initiatives and efforts made by the foremost monarch to counter \u00a0negative perception and reduce influence of ethno-religious influence in Nigeria through various fora including inviting international Joint Muslim-Christian delegation to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Governor Sani Bello also noted that, as the 20th\u00a0Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar III was instrumental to the establishment of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) which is championing the course of sustainable peace, security, ethno-religious harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst people of various faith in the country.\u200e<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sultan\u2019s reign has brought unity and peaceful co-existence and greatly reduced mutual suspicion and tension amongst people from different religious and ethnic divide. He has been able to sustain and enhanced the status of the throne and wielded influence that transcends the country\u2019s borders.<\/p>

“These efforts has earned the Sultan \u00a0national and international recognition including joint nomination with Cardinal \u00a0John Onayekan for Nobel \u00a0Peace Prize in recognition of their peace-building roles \u00a0\u201d, the governor stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to celebrate a strategic leader and statesman whose positive attitude, strong will, discipline, self-confident and ability\u00a0\u00a0to manage people have been significant factors towards the progress and development of the Sultanate in particular and the country in general. He has clearly \u00a0combined his militaryexperience\u00a0with the Sultanate leadership values in the discharge of his\u00a0responsibilities\u00a0\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the role of traditional rulers and religious leaders in nation building, Governor Sani Bello stressed the need for government to support them by creating the right platform for them to function effectively.<\/p>\n

The governor prayed Allah to grant the spiritual leader many more decades ahead in good health and wisdom to continue with the remarkable service to humanity by promoting mutual respect and condemning bigotry wherever it rears its head.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Sa\u2019ad Abubakar III, was a\u00a0 serving \u00a0Brigadier\u00a0 General of\u00a0 the Armoured\u00a0 Corps, Nigerian Army,\u00a0 when he was recalled to take office as\u00a0 the 20th\u00a0Sultan on November 2, 2006 following the\u00a0 demise\u00a0 of his \u00a0brother, Muhammadu Maccido who died in the ill-fated ADC Airline in Abuja.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
