President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, the Nigerian medical doctor who operated on an unborn baby in the United States of America.<\/p>\n

Oluyinka Olutoye, a 1988 medical graduate of the University of Ife, Osun State successfully removed tumour from a baby in her mother\u2019s womb, a feat which has brought honour to Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Senator Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement on behalf of the Federal Government, said that the Nigerian Government and people were proud of Olutoye, who earned his PhD in anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, U.S., in 1996.<\/p>\n

Dabiri-Erewa revealed that Olutoye and his partner, Dr. Darrell Cass of the Texas Children\u2019s Hospital, successfully carried out the surgery on a 23-week-old unborn baby in the USA.<\/p>\n

The statement reads, \u201cThe baby, Lynlee Hope, who suffered from a tumour known as Sacrococcygeal Teratoma, was removed from her mother\u2019s womb, operated on, and returned to the womb. The baby got healed and continued to grow until she was finally delivered at 36 weeks.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Dabiri also stated that the President received the news of Olutoye\u2019s feat with excitement, fulfilment and was looking forward to meeting him.<\/p>

She also expressed joy that a Nigerian has further projected the image of the country in good light, stating that Nigerians in the Diaspora are great potentials in all sectors.<\/p>\n

According to her, \u201cNigerians are a great people, making greater positive impacts in all fields of human endeavour in the Diaspora. Dr. Olutoye\u2019s feat is one of such testimonies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Olutoye is a co-Director of the Texas Children\u2019s Fetal Center, and fetal surgery team member, as well as a general pediatric surgeon. He is a member of the International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society and a Fellow of the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Surgeons.
\nHe is also a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons<\/p>\n
