Nigerians may be heaving a sigh of relief after weeks of hardship due to shortage of fuel and electricity supply.<\/p>\n

This is because, the News Agency
\nof Nigeria (NAN) Thursday, reported that 1,000 tankers
\nwere loading the product at the Lagos depot.<\/p>\n

NAN reports that the articulated
\nvehicles were sighted at Capital Oil,
\nFolawiyi, NIPCO, Aiteo, Mobil,
\nRahamaniya, De Jones and Integrated
\nOil loading points.
\nIt will be recalled that the Minister of
\nState for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe
\nKachickwu, had on March 29, assured
\nNigerians that the persistent petrol
\nscarcity will end by April 7.<\/p>\n

Some of the depot owners who
\npreferred anonymity disclosed to NAN
\nthat workers had been compelled to do
\n24-hour massive loading of petrol
\nsince April 5 to ease the scarcity.
\nThey claimed that about four vessels
\nbearing 33,000 metric tonnes of petrol
\nhad berth to discharge into storage
\nfacilities under the throughput
\narrangement agreement with the
\nNigerian National Petroleum
\nCorporation (NNPC).<\/p>\n

The depot owners said that the deadline set by the Minister of State
\nfor Petroleum Resources for fuel
\nqueues to disappear April 7 might not be achieved.<\/p>\n

According to them, most trucks that
\nload in Apapa do not only serve Lagos
\nmetropolis but also travel to other
\nstates in the south-west.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are faced with logistics challenges
\nin loading some of the trucks because
\nsome of the marketers who are in joint
\nvessel allocation delay in clearing their
\nlines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vessel which was meant for three
\nmarketers takes longer time to
\ndischarge due to some hitches of
\ndischarging into their storage
\nfacilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother challenge has to do with
\nclearance from the Navy, PPPRA, DPR
\nand other agencies in charge of
\ninspection to ascertain marketers who
\nare going to be paid on subsidy
\nschemes.<\/p>

\u201cIt is easier to discharge to a marketer
\nthan joint allocation of many
\nmarketers. This is another cause of
\ndelay in loading of the product,\u2019\u2019 they
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

NAN also reports that as at 10 a.m. on
\nThursday, long queues of tankers
\ndotted the service lanes of Apapa
\nOshodi expressway, from Cele bus stop
\nto Ibafon jetty.<\/p>\n

Security officials had a hectic time
\ncontrolling traffic to ensure that the
\ntruck drivers complied with traffic
\nrules.<\/p>\n

According to a marketer who
\nidentified himself as Alhaji Saliu
\nAbiodun, Capital Oil and Gas has
\ncommenced a 24-hour service.<\/p>\n

Abiodun, who urged other depots to
\nfollow suit, confirmed that about 46
\nmillion metric tonnes of petrol was
\nexpected to be injected into the supply
\nchain from Thursday from the NIPCO
\ndepot.<\/p>\n

He said the delay in getting approvals
\nfrom the relevant authorities to give
\nclearance to cargoes was also slowing
\nthe loading process and compounding
\nthe scarcity situation.<\/p>\n

It was observed that motorists at filling
\nstations had been orderly than the
\nprevious days which often caused
