21 Chibok Girls Abducted by Boko Haram Released<\/strong><\/p>\n

Twenty-one girls\u00a0of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, who were abducted in the dead of the night two years ago by the Boko Haram sect\u00a0have reportedly been found.<\/p>\n

A report by Sahara Reporters on Thursday said the girls were\u00a0handed over\u00a0to the Federal Government after they were picked up by a military helicopter from Banki area of Borno state, where they were dropped off earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

For now, it is not clear under what conditions the girls were released, neither were their identities revealed.<\/p>\n

The military is yet to issue any statement of the alleged release of the gilrs<\/p>\n

It will be recall that the\u00a0freedom of the 21 girls came barely a day after the global celebration of the Day of the Girl Child.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, after Twitter had gone agog, the official spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, took to the same platform to confirm the news, to the delight of many and the disbelief of many doubting Thomases.<\/p>

In a series of tweets\u00a0he said, \u201cIt is confirmed that 21 of the missing Chibok girls have been released and are in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe release of the girls, in a limited number, is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram,
\nbrokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government. The negotiations will continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President welcomes the release of the girls but cautioned Nigerians to be mindful of the fact that more than 30,000 fellow citizens were killed via terrorism.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalam LAWAL (DSS Boss, Lawal Daura) wants the girls to have some rest, with all of them very tired coming out of the process before he hands them over to the Vice President.\u201d<\/p>\n

On their part, the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, who have been in the forefront of the campaign for the release of the girls, while expressing their joy at the rescue, said they were waiting for a comprehensive report.<\/p>\n
