{"id":8809,"date":"2016-10-05T14:06:41","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T13:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=8809"},"modified":"2016-10-05T14:06:41","modified_gmt":"2016-10-05T13:06:41","slug":"more-than-half-of-nigerias-primary-secondary-schools-teachers-are-accidental-teachers-ngo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/more-than-half-of-nigerias-primary-secondary-schools-teachers-are-accidental-teachers-ngo\/","title":{"rendered":"More than Half of Nigeria\u2019s Primary, Secondary Schools\u2019 Teachers are \u201cAccidental Teachers\u2019\u2019 \u2013 NGO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/images-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-8810\" src=\"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/images-1-150x147.jpg\" alt=\"images\" width=\"150\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>More than Half of Nigeria\u2019s Primary, Secondary Schools\u2019 Teachers are \u201cAccidental Teachers\u2019\u2019 \u2013 NGO<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nSixty-eight per cent of primary and secondary school teachers in Nigeria are \u201caccidental teachers\u2019\u2019,\u00a0 the Centre for Learning and Educational Development Advocacy Africa (CLEDA-Africa) has said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Non-Governmental agency\u2019s Executive Director, Mr Daniels Akpan who made this remarks in Kaduna on Wednesday, he noted that the development was hampering delivery of quality education in the domestic economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver 68 per cent of teachers in primary and secondary schools in the country are teachers not because they want to be teachers but they are teachers because they cannot find any other job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe easiest opportunity they found was teaching and consequently, they are teaching without passion, without motivation and with no interest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Akpan said that there was the need, therefore, to help such persons improve on their quality of service. \u201cThis is because a nation cannot be better than the quality of its graduates, and the graduates cannot be better than the teachers that taught them.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf you improve on the quality of the teachers, you are in invariably improving the quality of graduates,\u201d he said. He explained that CLEDA-Africa, in collaboration with National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools had trained 177 teachers in Kaduna, Kano and Zamfara states on effective classroom management.
