National Library of Nigeria seeks Collaborations with FUT, Minna<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Librarian\/Chief Executive Officer, National Library of Nigeria, Professor . Lenre Aina, has solicited for collaboration with the Federal University of Technology, Minna in the areas of education, publishing standards and continuous professional development training programmes for staff of the University library.<\/p>\n

He explained that the collaboration was necessitated by the Institution’s research antecedents and commitment to academic excellence, adding that it would assist the University\u2019s researchers on the global best practices in publishing standards and in the development of the University library.<\/p>\n

Prof. Aina affirmed that the National Library of Nigeria is the steward of Nigeria\u2019s intellectual and cultural heritage and urged universities, publishers and authors to adhere to the existing law on deposition of specified copies of their publications with the Library.<\/p>\n

He stated further that the deposited publications are made available to users, preserved for the benefit of future generations and listed in the National Bibliography of Nigeria.<\/p>

Prof. Aina however frowned at the non-adherence of some universities, publishers and authors to publishing standards for not obtaining International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) from the apex library.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, he said, \u201cit is expected that all publications carry the International Standard Book Number (ISBN), in the case of books, and International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), in the case of serials,\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji congratulated the National Librarian on his well-deserved appointment, stating that the impact of the National Library would now be felt based on the antecedents of the new helmsman.<\/p>\n

Prof. Akanji, who was represented by Deputy Vice- Chancellor, (Academics) Prof. Oluwole Morenikeji said the University Library is at the centre of all research activities in the University, based on massive investment in books procurement and with a vibrant department of Library and Information Technology.<\/p>\n

The VC stated further that the University would always ensure that all books produced by staff meet global standards and urged the National Librarian to beam his searchlight on the activities of roadside printers and the use of fake ISBN<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
