{"id":8680,"date":"2016-09-30T02:41:45","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T01:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=8680"},"modified":"2016-09-30T10:31:24","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T09:31:24","slug":"our-aim-is-using-radio-as-development-tool-wfm-91-7fm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/our-aim-is-using-radio-as-development-tool-wfm-91-7fm\/","title":{"rendered":"Group visits WFM 91.7FM to support Nigerian Child Friendly Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/WFM2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-8684\" src=\"http:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/WFM2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"wfm2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Organisers of the Nigerian Child Friendly Awards have paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria\u2019s first Women oriented radio station, WFM 91.7FM, Arepo, Ogun State, Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The visit which became necessary after the radio station was nominated at the nomination exercise featuring over 300 children from various schools across Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the Nigerian children had the opportunity to ask some of the operators of the station vital questions.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the children representatives, 12-year ole Jessica Ituah, asked what children-oriented programs the station run and whether they feel the station deserves the award.<\/p>\n<p>Answering Ituah\u2019s questions were Agbona Opeyemi and Eloho Omoefe who had earlier received the delegation to the station.<\/p>\n<p>According to Agbona, the station is women and family oriented and definitely has the interest of the child. \u201cWe are radio station for women and the family. We are interested in anything concerning the child, we do everything that is child-friendly, we have the Kiddies Corner and we celebrate the children. For instance during the children\u2019s day, we visited the orphanage to celebrate with the children there,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Agbona added that, \u201cOur aim is to use the radio as a development tool. We have programs that are women centric and general programs like Everyday Woman. We have unsung heroes, we have radio drama and several other programs that are child-friendly.\u201d<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>The Nigerian Child Friendly Award is a product of Lagos-based NGO, the Nigerian Child Safety Report Initiative (NCSR). Aim of the project is to give the Nigerian child a voice in matters concerning them and rewarding child-friendly organisations to be decided through votes from the children.<\/p>\n<p>President of the organisation, Wilson Ukhurebor earlier stated that the awards to be decided by the votes from the children across Nigeria would further make organisations create more avenues to promote issues about the Nigerian child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis award was instituted to give voice to the children and make organiations pave ways for them to greatness,\u201d he said. Ukhurebor stated further that, \u201cThe children who are the future of tomorrow must enjoy all the support they can get today so that tomorrow can be a reality for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Project coordinator of the awards, Tunde Jenmi also told the public that the voting exercise already commenced on 26<sup>th<\/sup> September to end on 20<sup>th<\/sup> November marking the International Day for the World\u2019s Children\u2019s Right. \u201cThe voting exercise according to our calendar commenced on 26<sup>th<\/sup> September. The voting exercise would be conducted by the children themselves across Nigeria in schools, churches and mosques.
