The Nigeria Army has told the commission of inquiry sitting in Minna, the state capital to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the bloody clash between the military and some communities in Bosso local government area of the state that it will not disclose the source of its information which led to the invasion of the communities.<\/p>\n

In continuation of his testimony before the commission in Minna on Thursday, the Brigade commander, 31 field Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olanrewaju Jimoh said that it was not possible for Army to disclose the source of its information, saying that doing so will amount to undermining the national security.<\/p>\n

The Army had, in its earlier memorandum to the commission claimed that its decision to invade the communities to carry out a “cordon and search operation” was informed by an intelligent reports that some members of these communities had stock piled arms and ammunitions in their residential houses.<\/p>\n

General Olanrewaju pointed out that apart from the issue of national security, disclosing it source of information, he maintained, will also put the life of the informant in danger.<\/p>\n

He also told the commission that in future, the Army might be denied of such intelligent information which potents danger to the society.<\/p>

At this point, the leading counsel to the state government, Ustaz Yunus Usman(SAN) protested to the commission, arguing that failure by the military to disclose the source of it intelligent reports will render the objective of the commission which is a fact finding one useless.<\/p>\n

According to him, “unless the Army is ready to disclose the source of it information which led to the invasion of the communities either in the public or in camera, the truth may not come out”.<\/p>\n

However the Counsel to the military who is the Deputy Director Legal Services 1st Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Michael Edeh Elo countered the argument by the state’s counsel, insisting that his clients should be excused from disclosing the source of its information in the interest of national security.<\/p>\n

The commission Chairman, Mallam Mohammed Mohammed after listening to the arguments from both counsels, ruled that, for the interest of national security, the Brigade Commander should be spared from disclosing the source of the Military’s information<\/p>\n
