The\u00a0problem has been identified in software used in about 900 million\u00a0Android phones, including the HTC One, and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.While\u00a0there is currently no evidence of the flaws being used by hackers,\u00a0experts say it is a race as to who finds the bug first. The glitch was\u00a0found by researchers from Checkpoint, who posted about it in a\u00a0blog. The problem appears to affect phones which run on Qualcomm\u00a0processors, which the blog estimates to be around 900 million\u00a0devices.S peaking to the\u00a0BBC, Michael Shaulov, head of mobility product\u00a0management at Checkpoint, said: \u2018I&#8217;m pretty sure you will see these\u00a0vulnerabilities being used in the next three to four months.\u2018It&#8217;s\u00a0always a race as to who finds the bug first, whether it&#8217;s the good\u00a0guys or the bad.\u2019 Checkpoint discovered the problem after spending six\u00a0months reversing Qualcomm\u2019s code. They found that the problem lay in\u00a0the software that handles graphics, and in the code that controls\u00a0communication within the phone. Mr Shaulov added that taking advantage\u00a0of the bug would allow hackers to take control of the phone, as well\u00a0as gain access to all its data.\u00a0The results have now been handed to Qualcomm, who is believed to have\u00a0started to work on a fix for the bug.While the patches \u2013 fixes for the\u00a0bug \u2013 have been distributed to the phone makers, it is still unclear<br \/>\nhow many of those companies have sent the update to their customers. In\u00a0the meantime, Checkpoint has created an app called\u00a0\u2018QuadRooter\u00a0Scanner\u2019, that allows users to check if their phone is vulnerable to\u00a0the bug. Mr Shaulov added that Android users should make sure they only\u00a0download apps from the Google Play store.
