The trade relationship between Nigeria and the UK may soon get a\u00a0further boost, as the UK\u2019s Prime Minister Trade Envoy to Nigeria, John\u00a0Howell has called for more collaboration and strengthening of existing\u00a0business opportunities between both countries.<\/p>\n

He said the Nigeria market with lots of business growth potentials\u00a0remained untapped, noting that the British government is more than ever\u00a0ready to invest in the Nigeria market.<\/p>\n

Addressing reporters on Wednesday on the Lagos floor of the Nigerian\u00a0Stock Exchange (NSE), during a visit to the market, the British envoy\u00a0said with the recent Brexit vote in the UK, noted that it is a\u00a0major opportunities for African countries to have more stake in the UK\u00a0economy.<\/p>\n

Howell who said there is a dedicated trade desk in the UK, that helps\u00a0to galvanize business relationship between his country and other trade\u00a0partners, explained that the Nigerian stock market being a very\u00a0important market in the African continent must be leveraged on to boost\u00a0businesses in the country.<\/p>\n

On the issue of insurgency, Howell noted that the UK government will\u00a0continue to collaborate with the government in tackling the problem of\u00a0incessant militant attacks in both the North East and the Niger Delta.<\/p>

\u201cThe first thing the UK government has done is to appoint me as the\u00a0trade envoy to Nigeria and that shows the important that the UK\u00a0government attached to Nigeria. Not all countries in the world has\u00a0trade envoy. It is also good opportunity for Nigeria companies to get\u00a0involved in the UK market. We have to look at the increase prosperity\u00a0on both side as being one of the great things I want to achieve.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat you will see is some greater focus, to make the best of the\u00a0opportunities that are here. The assistance Nigeria are getting in\u00a0fighting the issue of corruption and insecurity in the North and Niger\u00a0Delta will continue\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

Nigeria\u2019s relation with its trading partners across the world is a\u00a0mixed bag of risks and opportunity. Often toutedas Africa\u2019s biggest\u00a0economy, though ranked 26th in the world in terms of Gross Domestic\u00a0Product (GDP) after rebasing, and with an over 167 million\u00a0population,the country still remains an investor\u2019s delight in spite of\u00a0seemingly unfavourable business climate like insecurity and\u00a0infrastructure deficit.<\/p>\n

One of its biggest trading partners is the United Kingdom. Presently,\u00a0Nigeria is UK\u2019s second largest trading partner in Africa after South\u00a0Africa.
