The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police\u00a0Command have arrested two armed robbers in two separate incidences in\u00a0Ikotun and Olodi \u2013 Apapa, just as it recovered gun, jewellery, laptop\u00a0and 18 mobiles phones from the robbers.<\/p>\n

The robbers; Bashir Wasiu, 22, from Oyo State and Tunde Adedeji, 23,\u00a0from Abeokuta, Ogun State were arrested in Olodi \u2013 Apapa, around 6:35\u00a0a.m. on Tuesday, 19 July, 2016 and Ikotun on Monday, 18, July, 2016\u00a0around 4:33 a.m. respectively.<\/p>\n

Bashir had on early Tuesday morning in company of his two other\u00a0members, waylaid Viho Segun at his residence\u2019s car park, snatching his\u00a0documents, phones and N15,000 from him at gun point before leading him\u00a0to his flat intending to collect more valuables from his family.<\/p>\n

At the Viho\u2019s flat, Bashir threatened to kill him in the presence of\u00a0his children and wife if they fail to produce more valuables.<\/p>\n

When the wife refused to surrender what they wanted, Bashir smatched\u00a0Viho\u2019s head with gun butt and beat the wife to a pulp.<\/p>\n

Explaining what happened, Viho said: \u00a0\u201cWhen he started beating my\u00a0wife, I summoned courage to engage him. As soon as we started\u00a0fighting, his colleague took to his heels. He too tried to run but I\u00a0held him and I called out to neighbours, seized his gun and just in\u00a0the nick of time, RRS officers on patrol arrived and they arrested\u00a0him\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the suspect, \u201cwe have been monitoring Viho.\u00a0We know he goes to work early in his car and we decided to ambush him.<\/p>\n

We were three, Michael and I followed him into his flat to collect\u00a0more money while Joseph was monitoring the situation outside.<\/p>\n

The three of us met at a point near boundary in Ajegunle. That is\u00a0where we plan and set out for our operations. We operate early in the\u00a0morning and late evening\u201d.<\/p>\n

For Tunde Adedeji, his 10 – member robbery team invaded Muslim\u00a0 and\u00a0Omotayo Streets, where they robbed all the occupants of the three\u00a0buildings they targeted.<\/p>\n

Two of the three buildings are in Muslim Street while the third\u00a0building is in Omotayo Street.<\/p>

Over 25 robbery victims residing in the three buildings narrated their\u00a0ordeals in the hands of the 10 \u2013 man robbery gang when they besieged\u00a0RRS Headquarters in Alausa after reports filtered to them that RRS\u00a0officials arrested one of the robbery suspects.<\/p>\n

Most of the robbery victims sustained several matchete cuts in the\u00a0head and body.\u00a0The robbery victims, who came to Alausa in three fully loaded\u00a0commercial buses were invited one after the other to identify the\u00a0suspect and also identify their belongings from the 18 mobile phones,\u00a0trinkets and assorted jewellery, recovered from the back \u2013 pack of the\u00a0suspect.<\/p>\n

Explaining how they planned and carried out the robbery operation,\u00a0Adedeji said \u201cat about 12:00 midnight on this fateful day, Sadiq,\u00a0Sule, Ijoba, myself and six others whose names I don\u2019t know met and\u00a0discussed about the robbery.<\/p>\n

I was invited into the operation by Sadiq. We met at Ikotun Egbe. We\u00a0discussed the plan and at around 2:00 a.m., we converged at Ikotun\u00a0Roundabout. The arms we used for the operation were cutlasses, wood\u00a0and sticks. None of had a gun. We used legs to break doors and took\u00a0phones, jewellery, laptops from our victims\u201d.<\/p>\n

He disclosed \u201call the recovered items in my hand were from the\u00a0victims. Sule and I were coming from the operation around 4:00 a.m.\u00a0when a local security man intercepted us. He collected Sule\u2019s bag. We\u00a0ran away just as he was opening the bag. But, I was later arrested by\u00a0RRS officials of patrol after seeing the content of my bag.<\/p>\n

This is my second operation with the team. In June, we also robbed\u00a0another house in Ikotun. We also took from them phones and money.<\/p>\n

We sell all what we take to one guy called Tablet. Sule normally call\u00a0him on phone after the operation and we meet him at Olugbede in Egbeda\u00a0area\u201d.<\/p>\n

While Bashir Wasiu was transferred to SARS office in Ikeja, Adedeji\u00a0was transferred to Ikotun Police Station along with the recovered\u00a0items for further investigation.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the robbery, the Police PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos confirmed\u00a0the arrest, adding that the police is not resting on its oars. She\u00a0stressed that the Command would continue to work round the clock to\u00a0reduce crime in the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
