The House of Representatives Committee on Youth and Development, has expressed concern over the nature of existing facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Paikoro, Niger state and called on the state government\u00a0 for\u00a0 improvement on the facilities.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Martins Esin, made the call when he led other members of the committee on oversight function to the Paikoro\u00a0 NYSC orientation camp in Niger state.<\/div>\n
\nHe said the committee had established contact with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state and he had promised that intervention would be carried out in the camp beginning from January, 2024.<\/p>\n

“We have gone round the camp, inspect the male and female hostels and the clinic, there is need for improvement in the camp facilities.<\/p>\n

“The male hostel need more beddings, these corps member are serving the country, and as such we should make the environment conducive for them to give their best service,” he said<\/p>\n

Esin, disclosed that the National Assembly,Abuja\u00a0 was interested in the well-being of NYSC considering what the scheme represent s of fostering National unify and integration among Nigeria youths.<\/p>\n

He said the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon.Tajudeen Abbas and the committee’s\u00a0 leadership had resolved to oversee activities of the scheme and offer support for optimal performance.<\/p>

He, however, advised the corps members to be security conscious, adding that corps members have become soft target for criminals and enemies of the country.<\/p>\n

Earlier in her address, the\u00a0 NYSC Coordinator, in the State,\u00a0 Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka, said 1,495 corps members were posted to Niger State\u00a0 adding that those dislodged from FCT, Abuja\u00a0 were registered for 2023 Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course in Niger\u00a0 state.<\/p>\n

She said the corps members had displayed a high sense of discipline, hilighting that adequate security were on ground to safe-guard the orientation camp.<\/p>\n

Olayinka, however, said the scheme was confronted\u00a0 with challenges of shortage of camp facilities, erosion control issue and inadequate boreholes for water supply.<\/p>\n

She added that already the present administration led by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago had showed concern to improve on facilities at the orientation camp.<\/p>\n
