Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Adamu Dankwara, has described the action of a policeman who handcuffed a suspect and drove over him as barbaric, inhumane and unprofessional.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As seen in a trending video, the policeman and five other operatives had arrested a suspect who reportedly drove an unregistered vehicle, handcuffed him and drove a vehicle through him while he was lying on the tarred road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 5 pm on Thursday, 29 June, 2023, along Ihumudumu Road, Ekpoma.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Dankwara, in a statement by the Command\u2019s spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, condemned the action of the operatives, even as he called for their immediate arrest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The statement said:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cEdo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it\u2019s aware of the trending video in the social media that shows some Police officers with a Sienna Vehicle used for Police patrol that ran over a young man who was handcuffed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe facts of the incident as gathered preliminarily indicates that on 29\/06\/2023 at about 1700hrs, ASP Magdalene Osayande reported at Ekpoma Divisional Police Headquarters, Ekpoma, Edo State that while on routine stop and search duty with her team of six (6) policemen along Ihumudumu Road, Ekpoma, Edo State, intercepted a driver of unregistered Lexus car and demanded for the vehicle particulars.<\/p>

\u201cAlong the line, he became aggressive and refused to oblige the request of the Police operatives, but rather attacked them, inflicted injuries on them, and destroyed Police vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHowever, he was arrested, handcuffed, and identified as one Success Ehimare before the incident that is currently trending in social media occurred. He was later taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital for treatment, and he is in good health condition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHe therefore gave a marching order to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ekpoma to identify, arrest, and bring to the State Police Headquarters Benin for brief and debrief.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThe officers had so been arrested, and they are with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are undergoing through some interrogations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
