…as mob attacks police station<\/p>\n

A soldier attached to 174 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Odogunyan Barracks, has been stabbed to death by a policeman at Ikorodu.<\/p>\n

The soldier was said to have confronted an improperly dressed policeman to confirm his identity, who was standing close to a Patrol Vehicle of Operation MESA, led to an argument and eventually a fistcuff.<\/p>\n

In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, who confirmed the death of the soldier said the remains of the soldier has been moved to 174 Battalion Medical Centre in Ikorodu.<\/p>\n

He also confirmed that the suspect (policeman) has been arrested and kept in a military custody for his safety and subsequent hand over to Nigeria Police for prosecution.<\/p>\n

As a result of the stabbing to death of the soldier, an “angry mob at Ogijo Community, a border town between Ogun and Lagos states attacked a Police Station today (on Wednesday), 15 February 2023 following the death of a soldier who was stabbed to death by a policeman.<\/p>\n

“The victim confronted the suspect who was not properly dressed and standing very close to the Patrol Vehicle of Operation MESA to confirm his identity. This led to an argument and subsequently, the unfortunate incident,”the statement added.<\/p>

Lt Col Ayeni further stated that “The soldier was immediately rushed to Lagos State Polytechnic Hospital, Odogunyan, for medical attention, but he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.<\/p>\n

“The remains of the soldier has been moved to 174 Battalion Medical Centre in Ikorodu. The suspect has also since been arrested and kept in a military custody for his safety and subsequent hand over to Nigeria Police for prosecution.<\/p>\n

“The angry mob who witnessed the unfortunate incident took advantage of this and attacked Police Station in the community.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it was disclosed that troops of the Nigerian Army have been deployed around the vicinity of all police stations in Ikorodu general area to prevent breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n
