Chief Judge of Bayelsa state, Justice Kate Abiri has inaugurated the Governing Council of the Bayelsa state Multi-Door Court(BMDC) House.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Performing the inauguration which took place at the Chief Judge’s chambers, state judiciary, Justice Abiri commended the state House of Assembly and the state Governor, Senator Douye Diri for making as well as assenting to the law creating the Bayelsa state Multi-Door Court House(BMDC).<\/p>\n

She noted that while the processes of having the Multi-Door Court(BMDC) House which would facilitate alternative dispute resolutions (ADR) in the state commenced since 2009, she was glad the state government was able to put the legal instrument creating the Multi-Door Court House (BMDC) in place in April, 2022.<\/p>\n

Justice Abiri averred that section 10(pt 2) of the BMDC law created a governing council for the state Multi-Door Court House, hence necessitating its inauguration in consonance with that provision of the law.<\/p>\n

The Chief Judge said: “The BMDC is the court-connected alternative dispute resolution (ADR) centre of the High Court of Justice, Bayelsa state.The idea of providing disputants the mechanisms of resolving their issues in ways other than the adversarial adjudication via litigation and in a manner that is expeditious, cost effective and particularly less acrimonious, has caught on worldwide and spreading through the judiciary nationwide.<\/p>\n

“In Bayelsa state, the process of setting up an ADR centre was commenced in the year 2009 by the inauguration of a steering committee which worked in collaboration with Bayelsa state Government. Today, the state boasts of a befitting structure, the Multi-Door Court House Complex’ within the High Court premises, providing ADR processes and advancing the course of ADR in Bayelsa state.The journey of the BMDC to meet it’s overriding objectives has been tortious, with skeletal services of mediation, conciliation, arbitration, neutral evaluation, and etc, being rendered.<\/p>\n

“Today, I’m pleased to declare that the BMDC is set for a full fledged operation, with the passing of its bill into law by the state House of Assembly, and the eventual assent to the law in April, 2022 by the Executive Governor of the state, Distinguished Senator Douye Diri. The BMDC law has been gazetted, and its practice direction set to be unveiled.”<\/p>\n

National Wire reports that the Governing council comprises the Chief Judge of the state as Chairman.<\/p>\n

Other members are, the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Biriyai Dambo, SAN, Hon.Justice Raphael Ajuwa, ADR Judge one, Hon. Justice E.G Omukoro, ADR Judge two, Hon. Justice S.W. Amaduobogha, ADR Judge three, Nyingi E. Eke-Spiff Utomvie, Esq, and the Yenagoa branch Chairman, Nigerian Bar association (NBA) Barr. Saiyou Ukunbiriowei.While the duo of Barr. Warmate Jones Idikio and HRM King Collins Ebi Daniel were to represent the private sector, respectively.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Newsmen shortly after the inauguration, the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Biriyai Dambo commended the Chief Judge for the feet achieved in the state judiciary under her stewardship, noting that with the inauguration, the state would now fully have the ADR mechanisms operational, this was just as he added also that the Governing council is made up of people with impeccable character and requisite know-how.<\/p>\n
