{"id":66859,"date":"2022-11-19T09:23:40","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T08:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=66859"},"modified":"2022-11-22T09:29:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-22T08:29:28","slug":"eu4democracyng-ipc-trains-140-female-journalists-on-election-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/eu4democracyng-ipc-trains-140-female-journalists-on-election-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"#EU4DEMOCRACYNG: IPC Trains 140 Female Journalists On Election Reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"http:\/\/ipcng.org\"> International Press Centre<\/a> (IPC), the lead partner of component 4 (Support to media) of<\/p>\n<p>the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria-Phase II (EUSDGN II)<\/p>\n<p>project has launched a four-series specialised skill-enhancing sessions to equip and enable<\/p>\n<p>female journalists to report public interest issues around the 2023 electoral process from a<\/p>\n<p>deepened gender perspective and using data skills and investigative methods to challenge<\/p>\n<p>stereotypical reporting of the electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>Organised in partnership with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the<\/p>\n<p>first leg of the training was held in in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, on 7 November, 2022 with<\/p>\n<p>32 female journalists in attendance, predominantly from the southern parts of the country,<\/p>\n<p>while the second training which is expected to be attended by 35 female journalists selected<\/p>\n<p>from the northern parts of the country, will be held in Abuja on 21 November, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The specific objective of the media component is to ensure that, \u201cThe Media, including New<\/p>\n<p>and Social Media, provides fair, accurate, ethical and inclusive coverage of the Electoral<\/p>\n<p>Process\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The overall goal is to \u201cSupport the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria with the media<\/p>\n<p>(broadcast, print and online media) helping to facilitate the key ingredient of credible<\/p>\n<p>elections through engagement and professionalism in coverage and reportage of the electoral<\/p>\n<p>processes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The IPC initiative aims to position female journalists to deliver impactful, public-interest and<\/p>\n<p>investigative reporting of the electoral process especially by incorporating the use of data<\/p>\n<p>tools in reporting the electoral process and the elections.
