The Chairperson, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 81 Division chapter, who is the wife of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dr (Mrs) Ada Ajunwa on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit on the 81 Division Garrison Commander, Brig Gen Musa Abubakar Sadiq as part of her familiarization visits to units and formations.<\/p>\n

\"\"Accompanied by NAOWA members, she briefed the Commander in his office at the Garrison Headquarters, Dodan Barracks, Obalende.<\/p>\n

Dr Ajunwa explained that it was customary of the new NAOWA Chairperson to pay courtesy call on the Commander, Units, Formations and other establishments within her Area of responsibilities and also familiarize with them.<\/p>\n

She pointed out that NAOWA as a non-governmental organization, has, and would continue to contribute its little quota to the society, especially in the area of support to the civil society which had culminated to visits to prisons, hospitals, old people and orphanage homes.<\/p>\n

In that vein, she used the opportunity to solicit for assistance to embark on some projects including providing state of the art infrastructures and amenities for people in the barracks and the general public, adding that NAOWA will not relent in its humanitarian gesture.<\/p>\n

Particularly, Dr Ajunwa, while explaining specific areas of need, said the association intends to establish NAOWA Primary School at An\u2019s Barracks, Yaba; the Construction of more classrooms and procurement of more desks and chairs for NAOWA Schools in Badagry, Ikorodu and Owode in Ogun state.<\/p>\n

In addition, she emphasized, NAOWA is desirous to ensure that teachers at their various schools and vocational centres are retrained on better and modern teaching methods including Montessori, Audio\/visual and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the procurement of Montessori and modern teaching equipments for NAOWA Schools.<\/p>

She revealed that they are working assiduously to “Ensure that all NAOWA Schools within AOR are accredited, refurbishing the existing classrooms in NAOWA schools situated at 243 Battalion Badagry Barracks, An\u2019s Barracks, 192 Battalion Owode and 174 Battalion Ikorodu.”<\/p>\n

Others are “Skill acquisition training and starter packs for NAOWA and Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) members, widows as well as Youths within our AOR.”<\/p>\n

She stressed that the Commander’s support would have a multiplying positive impact in the provision of quality education for our children, Women as well as assisting NAOWA in achieving its set projects.<\/p>\n

Responding, the Garrison Commander, Brig Gen Musa Sadiq commended NAOWA’s impeecable contributions to human and capital development, noting that “positive changes are happening in the barracks”.<\/p>\n

He explained that gone are those days when people used to attribute or attach negative things to barracks “boys and girls”, to the extent that some of them felt ashamed to be identified with barracks. But through the laudable efforts of NAOWA, those narratives have changed.<\/p>\n

He pledged to support NAOWA, and enjoined them to identify specific project for his support stressing that “NAOWA has always wanted the society to look very productive.”<\/p>\n

On her entourage were Mrs Igbinomwanhia; Mrs Sadiq, wife of the Garrison Commander; Mrs Ogunyeye; Mrs Kalejaiye; Mrs Sule and Mrs Obilor among other officers of the Garrison which included Major E. Roberts, Admin officer and Major S.O Laleye, the Operations Officer.<\/p>\n
